The Elk Valley Hospice Board are excited to share our organizations new Strategic Plan 2023. We would also like to say thank you to everyone who took the time out of their busy life to complete our Community Survey back in July. Your thoughts, ideas and feedback allowed us to perform a thorough SWOT analysis and identify the below key Strategic Goals for our organization. With the assistance of Columbia Basin Trust and their Non-profit Advisors Program, we were able to engage a wonderful facilitator, Laurie Klassen to assist us with this journey. Here is an overview of our Strategic Plan:
Vision:
No one has to die or grieve alone
Mission:
Elk Valley Hospice provides confidential and free supports for those dying and grieving. We aim to normalize death, dying and grieving through community education and end-of-life and grief companionship by trained volunteers
Guiding Principles:
- Living While Dying – We honour each individual’s needs and provide compassionate companionship for those facing advanced illness and death. We are present and engaged and personalize our offerings to enhance an individual’s life until the time of death.
- Collaboration – We work collaboratively with healthcare providers, community partners, family and loved ones, and the individual to enhance their end-of-life care and comfort and to provide support throughout the bereavement journey.
- Respect for Family – Family are valued, supported, and included during their loved one’s end-of-life journey. We are mindful of their values, choices, spiritual needs, and traditions. We provide support through the bereavement process.
- Education and Training – We prioritize and value ongoing education and training to support volunteers and to ensure quality end-of-life and bereavement companioning. We engage Elk Valley residents in conversations and education about end-of-life care.

Attached to each of the above Strategic Goals is a list of the measurable tactics we will use to achieve these goals. We also have a monitoring tool developed to help use check in on our progress and stay on track.
